Weekend trips around Berlin

Berlin is a city that has it all. However, there are times when a little change is needed. For that reason, I will be writing today about some cities near Berlin to visit during the weekend. I hope it is helpful and see you very soon in our next post!

LEIPZIG

Bundesverwaltungsgericht and movment

So Leipzig may no longer be a surprising getaway and you have probably already heard many things about it. The truth is that it is ‚the new Berlin‘, just like Wedding is the new Kreuzberg.

Rumours about Leipzig have been going around for years. Its cheap rentals, the fact that it‘s the place to be for artists who want to move away from Berlin, its vibrant music scene and wide range of partying options… Leipzig is incredibly lively, and the countless cafes, bars, art galleries and young people you meet at every corner definitely give this city a special vibe. As you can tell, it is very easy to fall in love with this appealing city. Do not miss the opportunity to visit Leipzig and take advantage of its affordable holiday rentals!

Estimated journey time: around two hours by train.

DRESDEN

Dresden

Dresden, the former capital of the federal state of Saxony, can be easily reached by train or bus for an affordable price. Besides, a lovely accommodation in the heart of the old town is not difficult to find. Dresden is not a city that stands out for its size but it is undoubtedly charming, known as the ‚Florence of Elbe river‘. Although it was partly destroyed during the Second World War, there are still many historic buildings that have survived to the present day.

Exploring the city on foot could be an authentic way to get to know part of Germany‘s history on a deeper level. Local places like Neumarkt Square, the wonderful baroque churches, the Royal Palace tower and the Semperoper are musts during you visit.

The journey takes less than three hours by train from Berlin.

SZCZECIN/STETTIN (POLAND)

Stettin

A trip to the Polish city of Szczezin (Stettin in German) might tempt those who want a break from Berlin‘s daily hustle and bustle. Moreover, with Szczecin being a border town, one can enjoy the pleasure of discovering another culture and part of a different country while still practising the German language.

If you thought Berlin was cheap, there are certain parts of Eastern Europe that are even cheaper. Szczecin offers a great amount of inexpensive options, not only in terms of accommodation but also when it comes to eating or shopping. A stroll along the beautiful Oder River or a visit to the Waly Chrobrego architectural complex are just some of the many attractions of this lovely port city.

Estimated journey time: around two hours by train.
