Settling in Berlin?
'Settle
in Berlin' is a blog site designed to help you to do just what it
says on the tin- settle in Berlin.
Moving
to a new city is always stressful, but is made even more so when you
are not only moving to a new city, but also to a new country. The
blog is aimed at newcomers to Germany who would like to live in
Berlin long term, but it also has useful information for exchange
students or people who will only be staying in Berlin for shorter
period of time. 'Settle in Berlin' has a plethora of articles giving
you step-by-step guides and to-do lists on everything from
„Anmeldung,“ to renting accommodation, to insurance.
The
blog was created in 2011 by Bastien Allibert, who upon moving to
Berlin from abroad found it difficult to find one single forum or
website that compiled all the necessary information he needed as a
newcomer. Instead of becoming disheartened, Bastien saw a gap in the
market and decided to use his initiative by designing the blog he
would have wished to find.
Bastien
aimed to create a resource for other internet users which was as
„clear and short as possible.“ This shines through in his simple,
easy-to-navigate blog as well as the structured,
straight-to-the-point style of writing in his articles.
This
structured approach which guides the reader through the
practicalities of the starting out life in Berlin is almost German in
its logical organisation. It is perhaps because of this that the blog
has caught the attention of the German press and „Settle in Berlin“
has been cited by Expat.com, Berliner Zeitung, and Deutschland
Aktuell (a quarterly newsletter issued by the Bundesregierung) as
offering a great resource for Berlin newbies.
We
gave Bastien a hand by answering questions for his latest article
which you can read here:
